A traditional nine-yard nauvari saree takes twenty minutes to drape. Ours slips on like a dress — blouse, pre-draped saree and dhoti-style pant, with nothing to pleat and nothing to pin. It is made for the mornings when there is a naming ceremony, a haldi, a Ganpati aarti or a photoshoot, and a baby who will not sit still.

Every saree here is one of a kind — only one piece is made in each design. The blouse ties at the back and the waist has a nada, so both adjust by more than three inches. That is what lets one saree fit a six-month-old and still fit her at eighteen months.
